Be sure to clean and sanitize your Point-Of-Sale!

In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, all businesses must examine their hygiene practices carefully. Besides disinfecting doorknobs, counters, and table surfaces, you should also inspect your POS terminals more often since they will see a lot more use and could become bad hygiene hotspots. The touchscreen or PIN pad is in direct contact with all the customers and employees, so it's vital that POS terminals are regularly cleaned and disinfected. This will not only prevent germs from spreading, but also help improve the machine's performance and increase its life expectancy. The following tips and guidelines can help you clean POS and self-checkout hardware with the safety of your staff and customers in mind. 

To get started: 

1. Turn off and disconnect the power from the POS terminal.
2. Apply a few drops of cleaning solution to a microfiber cleaning cloth (used for electronic devices). Directly applying cleaner to the terminal is not recommended.
3. You must ensure the screen is free of dust before sanitizing it.
4. Make sure you use a 75% ethyl alcohol wipe or disinfectant wipe that won't damage your touch screen or sensitive surfaces.
5. To clean the display, gently wipe the surface and clean throughout the button and sides. Remember to wipe the cash drawer, cables, printers, and other peripherals as well.
6. To complete the cleaning process, wipe the terminal with a dry and clean cloth.
7. Power up the device only if it is completely dry.

*It is recommended to wear gloves while cleaning and then wash your hands afterwards. *Do not let any liquid or moisture get into the terminals. 

To Avoid: 

1. It is a big no-no to spray liquids such as sanitizers or disinfectants directly onto the terminals.
2. Your cleaning products may contain chemicals. Avoid harsh solvents, such as bleach, hydrogen peroxide, thinner acids, benzine, non-diluted alcohol, ketone-based solvents, or abrasive cleaners, since these can harm sensitive parts of terminals or destroy the plastic components in your POS system.
3. Be careful not to shake or scrub the terminal to cause any warranty to lapse. 
4. It is advisable not to touch the battery contact points, which can lead to corrosion.

Prevention is better than the cure. Keeping your POS terminals sanitized on a daily basis is vital for your employees and customers' health and safety.
